Feel the artistic tension, drive and excitement of our Spring 2010 Season. Influential and ground breaking ballets that helped shape dance in Canada are featured along with formative ballets commissioned by Ballet Kelowna or created by our own Artistic Director David LaHay.
Canadian master choreographer Brian Macdonald’s seminal ballet "Double Quartet" was inspired by the music of Franz Schubert and Canadian composer R. Murray Shafer. "Double Quartet" is a perfect marriage of music and movement that has garnered national and international praise from audiences and critics alike. Both "Etude" by Vancouver choreographer Kay Armstrong (which won international acclaim) and Ottawa choreographer Nesta Toumine’s hypnotic and ethereal "Gymnopedies" explore the dynamic fusion of classical and contemporary dance. Vancouver choreographer Joe Laughlin created "Butterfly Affect" in 2006 and reworked it especially as a pointe ballet for six dancers for Ballet Kelowna. "Butterfly Affect" displays Joe's unique stylization of movement and witty musicality and has touched audiences everywhere. David LaHay’s lyrical and romantic "In Arden Woods" rounds out this all Canadian program.
