Ballet Kelowna’s POP-UP SERIES returns, making its first appearance at UBC’s Okanagan campus. Co-presented by UBCO’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, this free event is open to members of the public and students alike. POP-UP SERIES: UBCO will feature a free ballet workshop, open viewing of company warmup, and a special performance at 5:00 PM that will include excerpts of signature works from Ballet Kelowna’s repertoire.

Pre-registration is required for the ballet workshop and the Oct. 4 performance. All POP-UP SERIES activities are free or by donation.

IN MOTION Introduction to Ballet | Joanna Lige

Introduction to Ballet is for absolute beginners who wish to learn more about the world of ballet. Participants will explore ballet steps at the barre, as well as simple stationary combinations in the centre.

Joanna Lige is a graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, a RAD Registered Teacher, a Certified Progressing Ballet Technique Instructor, a member of the Council of Ontario Dance and Drama Educators, and a member of the International Association of Dance Science and Medicine.

She grew up in Kelowna and has trained with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, The Banff Centre for the Arts, Peggy Baker Dance Projects, and SITI Theatre Company.  She has performed work by Sharon Moore, Michael Trent, Danny Grossman, Julia Sasso, Peter Chin, Jose Limón, Bill James, and Sarah Chase. She has recently performed with the Evolve Arts Collective and the Body Project.

While all Pop-Up Series activities are free, a donation to the Kelowna Ballet Society would be greatly appreciated. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $25 and up.
